January ...Dr Higham brought with him remarkable pictures from the new CT scan (Computer aided Tomography) that he has been working on at North Tyne and that is being installed at Wansbeck.
February...At our meeting on the 10th January Dr. Graeme Gillespie, a Clinical Psychologist, based at North Tyneside Hospital, and having responsibility for patients in the Northumberland NHS area, gave us a talk, and some good advice on some of the psychological problems associated with heart problems
March....In place of Dr Lavender’s talk we had a quiz and a discussion on Fibre, rather than do a report I have made up a small Fact Sheet on fibre.
April..Dr Mike Lavender, Director of Public Health with the NHS Care Trust gave a talk on HEART DISEASE – FREQUENTLY FATAL AND MOSTLY PREVENTABLE Reaching out to Berwick - the focus moves on from stopping smoking to reducing blood pressure.
May....At our meeting on Wed. 4th. April, our speaker was David Catt a member of Borders Organic Gardeners. (BOG). His talk was entitled ‘Growing fruit and other good things in a small garden’;
June....Dawn Scott, a Public Health Nurse Consultant with Northumberland Care Trust, who gave a talk on Childhood Obesity.
July.....Our speaker for the evening was Jenny Garland,Jenny concentrated for the evening on Reflexology, first giving a brief history both about herself and the therapy, and then demonstrating on a couple of willing helpers
August..... Mandy Thompson, Practice Nurse at Well Close Surgery, gave us deeper insight into aspects of her work, as Cardiac Rehab Nurse at the practice and working with the Cardiac Rehab. Unit at the Swan Centre.
September....Katie Kennedy. Katie is a State Registered Dietician, now based in the East Midlands and employed by Alpro Soya.
October....Dave Stephens Network and Communications Manager for ‘Warm Zone’, based in Blyth, but responsible for creating warmer homes throughout Northumberland.
November.... our speaker was Stephen Young of FISHNETS. If you look closely I have written of Fishnets, not in Fishnets.
December.... Our speaker for the November meeting was Jo Curtis, Disability Sports Development Officer for Berwick Borough Council. Her main areas of responsibility are all to do with long term health, involving participation in healthy exercise, and sporting activities.
